Shahadat Hossain born: 7 August 1986 is a Bangladeshi cricketer. His Test debut at Lord’s in 2005 was a chastening experience, as he conceded 101 runs in just 12 overs, but his second visit was a far happier affair, despite Bangladesh’s defeat on the fifth day of the game. On the tour to Zimbabwe in July 2006, Hossain became the first Bangladeshi to take a hat-trick in one-day internationals. His 6 for 27 against the South Africa in 2008 is his best Test performance to date.

Shahadat Hossain first represented Bangladesh at the 2004 Under-19 World Cup, where he stood out as a promising fast bowler, and was rapidly called up for Bangladesh A. Shahadat – who’s also known as “Rajib” – has all the necessary attributes for a successful seam bowler, bar outright pace. He is tall, comes in off a smooth run-up, and doesn’t put unnecessary pressure on his body with a slightly open-chested delivery position. He has a strong frame, endurance in abundance, and the ability to move the ball both ways. He is also naturally aggressive, with a characteristic grunt at the delivery stride.

Following that experience, Shahadat Hossain had a tough road ahead and continued to be expensive in ODIs. However, he had a memorable time in the series against Zimbabwe in 2006. In the third ODI at Harare, he became the only Bangladesh bowler to take a hat-trick in ODIs. He sent back Mufambisi, Chigumbura and Utseya as he enjoyed his time in the sun. His next best performance came against Australia at Darwin. He snapped up White and Johnson in quick succession but missed his hat-trick. However, he sent back Hussey and had picked up three wickets in four balls to redeem himself after an expensive start.

On 29 December 2015, Hossain and his wife were formally charged with torture and it was announced that the case will be heard on 12 January. In November 2016, he was acquitted on the torture charge in the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal after a judge found that the prosecution had not proven the case against Shahadat.

In November 2019, he was sent off from a match in the 2019–20 National Cricket League, due to a level 4 offense. He assaulted his own team-mate Mohammad Arafat when Arafat refused to shine the ball on one side as per his instructions. He was given a five-year ban, with two years suspended for the incident. Despite the ban, on 5 June 2021, Hossain played for Old DOHS Sports Club in the 2021 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League,
