Afif Hossain was born 22 September 1999) is a Bangladeshi cricketer. In February 2018, he was named in Bangladesh’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their series against Sri Lanka. He made his T20I debut for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka on 15 February 2018.Bangladesh left-hander Afif Hossain made his T20I debut in 2017 and impressed right away in his second game with a 26-ball 52 at No. 8 in a narrow win over Zimbabwe. He took a while to get going after that, although his T20I captain Mahmudullah praised his maturity during a tricky innings on a turning Mirpur pitch. In February 2022 in Chattogram, 22-year-old Afif rescued Bangladesh from 45 for 6 in a record stand with Mehidy Hasan Miraz against Afghanistan – they added an unbeaten 174, the second-highest partnership for the seventh wicket or lower in ODIs. Afif is also the youngest T20 debutant to take a five-for – he was 17 years and 72 days when he picked up 5 for 21, including the wicket of Chris Gayle, for Rajshahi Kings against Chittagong Vikings in December 2016.

He made his international debut during the 2019 tour of India and had a good outing in the game that Bangladesh won. As of now, Afif seems like a T20 specialist with his skill set but if he can polish them a bit more and be consistent with the bat, he could find himself in the lower middle order as far as Bangladesh’s ODI setup is concerned. For a country that lacks powerhitters, players like Afif will always keep getting chances but it’s about how he grabs those opportunities that will define him.

In February 2020, Afif was named in Bangladesh’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Zimbabwe. He made his ODI debut for Bangladesh, against Zimbabwe, on 6 March 2020. In September 2021, he was named in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In February 2022, he scored 93* and helped Bangladesh to get a famous win against Afghanistan in Chattogram, which is the highest individual score for any Bangladeshi batter in ODI cricket while batting at number 7 and lower. In August 2022, Afif scored 85 runs in 81 balls in the last ODI against Zimbabwe to prevent a whitewash. Bangladesh were able to get to a score of 256/9, and Bangladesh won. He won the “Man of the Match” Award for his efforts.
