The hooping motion strengthens the glutes and quads. “It’s also a wonderful cardiovascular workout,” Schenone adds.

Of course, there are certain considerations to make when beginning with a weighted hula hoop, beginning with determining the appropriate size for you. “Start with a smaller weight hoop if you want to promote greater effort.” Start with a heavier hoop if you want to take it easy.”  

 She also emphasizes the need of having lots of space around you without any disturbance, especially if children or dogs roaming around your house. And, because hula hooping can put a lot of strain on your back, it’s best to visit your doctor first if you have any form of back trouble.
